2057: Two Futures

Based on the current events and climate, there are two possible futures. On one hand the future could be worse then the present and on the other the future world could be more beautiful than ever.

In a world where hatred is ever reigning, war and violence are never ending. Cities are in shambles and sickness plagues the poor due to poor air quality and filth filling the streets. The rich live like kings and continue to get richer, the richest are living on the moon to avoid all the chaos on earth. The earth has become warm enough that snow and ice are only ever seen in the north and south poles and the ice caps have been completely melted away causing the water levels to rise. Most water is undrinkable unless it has been filtered many many times, and the amount of pollution in the oceans has caused all the fish to die. Many different species have gone extinct due to the growth in human population and the destruction of their habitats to make room for more crops and living space. These animals can now only be seen in zoos, movies, and picture books.

In a world where peace and acceptance are the most valuable thing, beauty grows. Scientists have found better sources for energy. Many ecosystems have been restored and species that were once almost extinct now thrive in their natural habitats. Products that used to fill up landfills for decades are now made of different, biodegradable resources. All cars are now electric. The ozone is now starting to repair itself and the number of cases of skin cancer and other illnesses caused by the sun’s harmful UV rays have gone down.

Mythology in Pop Culture

Mythology is everywhere in today’s society. DC has greek mythology, Marvel has Norse mythology and the fantasy section of the library has any mythology you could possibly dream of.
A well-known series in pop culture today is the Percy Jackson series which is following the Greek pantheon. Though I personally have not read this series, I have watched the movies and hope that when I have enough spare time I can start to read them.
Another pantheon that is well known by pop culture today is the Norse pantheon which is popular in the Marvel fandom due to Loki and Thor being two very beloved characters. Other Norse gods are also in the Marvel cinematic universe as well such as Hel, Fenrir, Valkerie, and Odin. These characters, however, are not as popular in the media.
DC follows the greek pantheon with Wonder Woman, aka Diane, who was born of an Amazonian woman and the king of the gods, Zeus. Many people adore Wonder Woman and look up to her as a great role model. Technically she isn’t really part of the greek mythology, but her mother and father were.
